Das Museumsquartier Bern aus der Vogelperspektive mqb

People in Bern have been talking about a Museumsquartier in Kirchenfeld for decades. The starting signal has been given in 2021 and we are on our way!

In order to turn the vision into reality, the canton and the city of Bern, as well as the Burgergemeinde Bern, have commissioned a feasibility study in 2019 that takes into account various development needs and wishes.

The motto: The Museumsquartier Bern is the place that investigates and documents changes in society and nature, involving the public in the process.

The Museumsquartier Bern association was founded in June 2021. Eleven institutions from the Kirchenfeld district want to grow closer together in a four-year development phase (2021-2024), come up with content formats and offers and develop a new urban space:

  • Alpines Museum der Schweiz
  • Bernisches Historisches Museum
  • Gymnasium Kirchenfeld
  • Kunsthalle Bern
  • Museum für Kommunikation
  • Naturhistorisches Museum Bern
  • PH Bern, Institut für Weiterbildung und Medienbildung
  • Schweizer Schützenmuseum
  • Schweizerische Nationalbibliothek
  • Stadtarchiv Bern
  • Yehudi Menuhin Forum

Before the eleven houses move on in 2022 to jointly develop a charter, an organisational structure, an umbrella brand and a programme for the MuseumsQuartier Bern in strategic working groups with employees from different departments of the various institutions, the late summer and autumn of 2021 were used to get to know each other and to gather and exchange knowledge and ideas together with the employees and the population.
