Need more information about our Swiss dog breeds?

To all seeking more information on Swiss dog breeds:

I am daily receiving many requests for addresses of breeders, clubs, mailing-lists and various additional information (e.g. diseases, availability, transport and prices of puppies) about our Swiss dog breeds.

This web-site is located at the Natural History Museum, Berne, Switzerland. The Swiss dog breeds pages are purely for general information and maintained by one of the curators of the department of vertebrate animals. We are not connected to any canine organizations or clubs and are not in a position to recommend any particular breeders. There are no veterinary surgeons, no breeders and no trainers at the Museum to answer your questions.

Although I would like to answer all mails personally as good and fast as possible, and have tried to do so up to now, I am sorry to have to announce that I cannot sustain this service anymore.

I therefore suggest you direct all inquiries to the Swiss Kennel Club at the following address:

Schweizerische Kynologische Gesellschaft (SKG)
Sekretariat
Länggassstrasse 8
Postfach
CH-3001 Bern
Switzerland

Tel: +41 31 362 62 62
Fax: +41 31 362 62 60
e-mail:

web:    www.hundeweb.org
You will find some addresses of Swiss dog breeders on their web-site. For the complete list or for more information on whom to contact if e.g. you wish to acquire a puppy in Switzerland I suggest you contact them directly. They will however not be able to provide adresses of breeders or clubs in other countries.
Further contacts will obviously have to be made by you.

Thank you for your understanding

One more thing: there are many excellent web-pages on the internet devoted to dog breeds, where you might find additional informations on some Swiss dog breeds, FAQs, mailing-lists and many useful links to canine organizations. Use one or more of the many excellent search-engines available on the Internet and go for it! For a start you might want to try Yahoo . Then, of course there's Usenet with it's seven rec.pets.dogs.* Newsgroups where you might post your questions.
Can't connect to these Newsgroups? Please read this:

Usenet News-Info

You will only be able to read a newsgroup if your LOCAL NNTP (news) server carries it - with W3 just like with any other newsreader. This is because when W3 reads news it looks for the nearest copy which has been broadcasted over the news network, whereas usually it reads the information directly from the source.

If you have troubles reading news, it is probably because you haven't configured your W3 browser correctly or then your LOCAL news server does not carry the group you are looking for.
