Basically, my fields of interests cover systematics, biogeography, and phylogeny of various groups of molluscs (mainly pulmonates) on a worldwide scale. However, there is a particular focus on the terrestrial molluscs of the southern Palaearctic area and some Pacific Island groups. Several of these projects are implemented in collaboration with colleagues from other institutions.

Type lists of mollusc taxa in Swiss museum collections: Lists are provided as the basic source of information, but these will be supplemented by illustration of type specimens in high resolution colour photos to facilitate identification of species, prevent misidentifications, and support recognition of probable synonymies. This project is partly financed by GBIF (Global Biodiversity Information Facility) Switzerland, data and pictures will be made available via GBIF.CH.

The terrestrial malacofauna of Turkey: This project is planned as fully coloured guide compiling data from all published sources. It also covers information from large, hitherto unpublished collections (editorship together with Prof. Ruud Bank, Groningen).

Elaboration of critical check-lists for various countries of the Middle East and Northern Africa: (in collaboration with colleagues from Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey, Tunisia and neighbouring countries).

Revision of the terrestrial malacofauna of the Socotra Archipelago, Yemen: The Socotra archipelago houses a terrestrial malacofauna which is almost 100 % endemic on species level. Abandoned for the last 100 years, this field was re-entered after extensive collection efforts starting in 1999. Considerable numbers of new taxa were described so far, but still new taxa are expected following a closer examination of insufficiently sampled areas on the islands.

Revision of the Diplommatinidae of Fiji: The main area of distribution for this family of tiny operculate molluscs is tropical Asia. On the Pacific Islands, only a few species have been known so far. However, intensive collections on Fiji Islands revealed the existence of a relatively specious radiation of this group (in collaboration with Prof. P. Bouchet, MNHN Paris).

Revision of the family Placostylidae from various Pacific Island groups: After the initial revision of the members of this family on New Caledonia (Neubert et al. 2009), a similarly new approach targeting at all species described from this family is planned.
